Why is there condensation inside my Ammo Guard?

Some customers notice condensation forming inside the Ammo Guard lens, especially after heavy rain or pressure washing. This is typically due to moisture entering through an imperfect seal.
 
Here’s a quick checklist to help resolve and prevent this issue:
 
✅ Ammo Guard Fitment Checklist:
  • Ensure both the Ammo Guard and headlight housing (leading edges) are completely clean and dry before installation.
  • Make sure the gasket seal is seated evenly and fully compressed — no gaps or misalignment.
  • Fit the Ammo Guard with even pressure and care to maintain a proper seal.
  • Optionally, install the rubber front seal bung (included) to block water ingress from the front.
Note: BMW’s headlight unit was never designed to be fully enclosed. Moisture can enter from the rear in extreme conditions (e.g. heavy rain or direct pressure washer spray).
If the rubber bung is installed, the unit is more sealed, but it won’t vent as easily, meaning condensation may take longer to clear. If you’re a fair-weather rider, we recommend fitting the bung. If you ride in varied conditions, it may be better to leave it out to allow breathability.

What’s normal vs. what’s not:
  • Light misting/condensation is common in many headlight systems — even on cars — and typically clears within 20 minutes, especially if the headlight is on, as the heat from the LED speeds up evaporation.
  • If you see actual droplets/beading water inside the Ammo Guard, this is a sign that water is getting in through the seal. In this case, remove the guard, check the gasket, and reinstall carefully following the steps above.
