How do I relocate my OEM BMW fog lights on my R1300GS?

If your R1300GS comes with factory OEM fog lights and you’re installing auxiliary lights, you may want to relocate the original fogs to your lower crash bars. Here’s how:

1. Mounting Brackets

You’ll need two crash-bar light mounts:

2. Extending the Wiring

There are two ways to handle the wiring:

Option A – OEM route
Ask your BMW dealer if they can supply official extension cables for the auxiliary lights.

Option B – DIY route

  • Cut the OEM harness about 10 cm (~4") back from the plug.

  • Add extension wire.

  • Refit the original plugs.

You can use universal extension wire or repurpose a pair of Denali T3 extension harnesses by removing the white plugs:

3. Installation Tips

  • Only attempt DIY wiring if you’re confident with soldering and heat-shrinking.

  • Insulate joints carefully to make them waterproof.

  • Secure wiring neatly away from steering movement, engine heat, and sharp edges.
